New Fantasy starter box set

So having seen the pics floating about on forums everywhere, desperatly need this box. And then ebay for one or two duplicates, maybe weapon teams and the chieftan.

Chieftan looks great, though banner pole looks a tad too big. Rat Ogres are amazing. Nice to see a mortar model. The WFT looks really small to me. Engineer is a little meh. Clanrats look exactly the same as current ones, but with shields as part of the body so prob a little loss of detail there.

Elves look damn good. Still want an HE or DE army, but for some reason all the current GW elf models do nothing for me style wise.

As an aside gw have updated all the FAQ's, and the line saying how Strength in Numbers is used with Steadfast has been deleted. Their are arguments all over the place for and against it now, and I'm so not eager to play an army when a major part of that army has a huge question mark over it. If they felt it was too powerful, they should of just changed it to a flat no, rather than deleting it altogether. Gw really are idiots.

  2. So, interesting time to be a Skaven player then?

I'm not familiar with 8th ed rules yet, due to GW's ridiculous overpricing, but i'm assuming steadfast plays around with a units leadership (boosting, presumably), if it messes with Strength in Numbers

tbh, i can't think of any situation where i'd use the word steadfast to describe a group of Skaven, so i'd personally use Strength in Numbers as a precedent over anything else unless instructed otherwise

Also, i want the Elves out of this boxed set at the very least, so fancy pitching in together to buy the boxed set when it comes out, then splitting the contents? Because tbh, i can't myself ever starting Skaven. My Night Gobbos keep me busy enough

  3. SiN lets you add your rank your bonus to your ld for all leadership tests.
Steadfast makes it so that if you have more ranks than the opponent and lose combat, you use your unmodified leadership for the break test. Seems straightforward enough.
Arguments appear when compared to the old stubbborn, which stated you used the ld on the profile. Which is plain as day, no room for argument there.
Steadfast says to use your unmodified ld, and uses the words modified ld (repeatedly) to describe the result of the combat (ld-combat result) which is fairly ambigious.

I'm personally in the camp that steadfast only removes the modifer from combat, all other ld modifiers apply. Either that or every ld reducing spell/item is effectively useless against infantry.
Steadfast should of been made clearer, but obv GW aren't going to admit their brand new rulebook has a hole in it. And I doubt this is the only one, but not got the actual book, can't afford it, just a pdf and can't focus on pdf's at all.

Might consider splitting boxes, gonna wait to see better pictures of the elves first though. If I ever do a second fantasy army, it will be HE or DE, so the elves may grow on me. They don't scream "I'm awesome" at me though. Though it's all moot, I'm a permanently skint, unemployable waste of flesh.
